For over 25 years, Marie Dressler Foundation has been awarding student bursaries annual to one or more students graduating from public secondary schools in Northumberland County.  Among the criteria for these awards are good academic standing, a record of community service, and a demonstrated commitment to pursue further education in the arts. 

Our museum volunteers are pleased to provide guided tours of the interactive exhibitions.

We produce Museum Moments which are short-form easily digestible podcasts that seek to tell the stories of discrete moments in the lives of Marie Dressler, Mary Pickford, and Norma Shearer, as well as a variety of other topics that fit within the scope of Canadian women in film, early Hollywood, and gender equality within the film industry. 

An intimate cinematic space inside the museum that celebrates and showcases films featuring women who have played pioneering roles, challenged norms, and paved the way for others in the industry. 

The Events Calendar provides details of each screening.  Admission is free, but a reservation is required to manage capacity.  Donations are welcome onsite to assist in the operations of this cinema.  Previous series included “Women Who Make Film”, remastered silent films starring Mary Pickford, “Cinema’s First Nasty Women”; Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers”, National Film Board Studio D features. 

At the Vintage Film Festival presented by Marie Dressler Foundation every October, classic movie lovers gather at The Capitol Theatre, a heritage cinema in Port Hope, Ontario to experience a curated program of timeless films chosen to support a specific theme. 

The companion Vintage Film Festival Program Book is a plethora of information about each film along with quotes from reviewers at the time of the original screening. 

The films are screened as they were meant to be seen - on the big screen with live musical accompaniment for silent films. 

Silent films are presented with live musical accompaniment.  

In addition, there is a special presentation by an industry expert on a subject relating to vintage cinema.
